“It takes a village …” to care for seniors too! Griswold Home Care of Cheshire knows the senior community and all of its many resources. We know where things are, who provides what kind of care, and who can provide other elder support. We also know about research and your arts community – we believe arts and healing go hand-in-hand. We reach those who need immediate home care and support and are engaged in healthy care for baby boomers and their parents.
My name is Lesley Mills and I am the Director of Griswold Home Care of Cheshire. Since Yale in ‘68, I’ve practiced health care in the local community and I know our communities from Cheshire to Waterbury to Kent.
We search all available home care and senior care resources for you. A diverse sampling: we review and advocate for your long term care insurance benefits; our coordinators learned fall prevention from Dr. Baker of Yale, part of The Fall Prevention Coalition; our innovation extended family coverage from the State (Agency on Aging and CCCI). Our local home care company also has exclusive contracts with the Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Associations for respite care and family relief care. St Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury; Apple Rehab, Watertown; Glendale Center, Naugatuck; Southington Rehab; and Abbott Terrace of Waterbury are among those who refer clients to us. We coordinate all types of care with the VNA and Hospice, 120 insurers, daycare centers, and many more senior resources.
Our senior clients live at home or in assisted living such as Village at East Farms, Waterbury; Elim Park, Cheshire; Heritage Commons, Southbury. Clients and family members often come to our state-wide presentations for the Alzheimer’s Association in Cromwell, the Agencies on Aging at the Capitol, and the Fearless Caregiver Conference.
As a 10-year radio veteran with baby-boomer and senior topics, I’m frequently speaking for local groups. Topics range from Dance, Balance and Longevity, and Alzheimer’s to Power in Caregiving Relationships.
Believing that arts heal and extend life, we’re especially involved in writing, dance and gardening. We believe that the arts improve quality of life for seniors and their family members. For our contributions, the Yale School of Nursing named the Griswold Home Care Writing Awards in 2012. Stories at http://nursing.yale.edu/creative-writing-awards. Dr. Bernie Siegel has advised our writers for Griswold LifeTales. Stories can be found at http://www.homecare-ct.com/lifetales.html
For using our techniques, a caregiver and coordinator were celebrated at the Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Recognition Luncheon held at the Village at East Farms in Waterbury. The Caregiver was celebrated for the difference they make in the day to day lives of their Alzheimer’s clients.
We give back to our senior care communities with fundraisers too. At Il Monticello in Meriden, we supported the Clelian Center’s Adult Day Care Center’s auction to raise money for family support programs and we’ve hosted the “Vinnie Carr Monthly Dance Party” at the Cheshire Senior Center. I hope you’ll join our extended communities through Griswold Home Care of Cheshire.
