The Jean Griswold foundation is proud to bear the name of a remarkable woman who established Griswold Home Care 35 years ago. Jean Griswold’s life’s work was providing services to elderly and disabled individuals, in the hopes of allowing them to age in place with dignity. Jean, herself, understood how difficult it was to live – and thrive – with an illness, having been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 39. Jean Griswold did not let being confined to a wheelchair stop her from carrying out her dream to provide compassionate in-home care for older and disabled individuals.
Her recent passing at the age of 86 increases our foundation’s commitment to honoring her vision. Established in 2010, the Jean Griswold Foundation awards financial support to grass root organizations that serve low-income elderly and or disabled populations. Agencies receiving grants are providing services that allow their clients to live in their environment with increased safety and independence. The Jean Griswold Foundation levels the playing field between poor elderly and disabled populations with those fortunate enough to have financial resources. We believe, as Jean did, that every older or disabled person deserves to have the opportunity to receive the care they need to help them get the most out of life.
Over the last four years, the foundation has given away $142,000 to community agencies around the country, wherever a Griswold Home Care office exists. Annually, these grants translate into thousands of low-income clients being able to age in place.
The list of agencies who have received grants is impressive. The services provided include free home-delivered meals, medical rides, respite care, home modifications, hospice care, as well as friendly visitors who provide care and companionship. We ask you to take time to visit us at www.JeanGirswold.org and follow our activities.
The foundation is a private 501 C charity and receives donations from Griswold Home Care, Griswold Home Care directors, and from the generosity of businesses and individuals throughout the country.
