For almost 40 years, we at Griswold Home Care have kept our mission top of mind: we give people the help they need to live in the place they love. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought our communities together, and we’re happy that we are continuously able to help those in need live safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Little did Dr. Jean Griswold know that when she founded our organization, we’d later find ourselves in a position to positively impact so many lives during this crisis.
As we celebrate our 38th anniversary, it’s important to remember where we started, and how far we have come. In January 1982, Jean was saddened by the bitter news that an elderly woman in her congregation had died at home after ceasing to eat and drink. She felt this tragedy could have been easily prevented with even a small amount of companionship and in-home care. Driven to act, Jean assembled a group of competent, caring individuals to help other older parishioners avoid a similar fate. That system became the seed of her life’s work: a national organization recognized as the oldest non-medical home care franchise company and one of the first companies to offer 24-hour care to disabled, injured, elderly, or at-risk individuals.
In every Griswold office around the country, not a day goes by where we don’t think about the good we’re able to do for our communities. Now more than ever, this remains top of mind as we work to ensure that all those in our care are safe and healthy while practicing social distancing. Keeping those most at risk from the effects of social isolation has been at the heart of what we do since day one, and we’ve only continued to build upon our founding mission. Griswold is here to help through this crisis, and we’ll remain long after it is over.
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased demand upon these nonprofits, and they are in desperate need of our support. If you’d like to support local nonprofits whose mission is to help senior citizens in need, please consider making a donation to the Jean Griswold Foundation. Established in 2010, the foundation is a 501(c)(3) private charity that provides grants to select nonprofit organizations supporting respite and supportive services for those in need, as well as funding for local community and grassroots organizations.
