Care Pairing Resources in Port Charlotte, FL

Community Resources in Southwest Florida

Is This What You’ve Been Wondering?

We’ve tried to think of questions you may be asking yourself. Please call our office (941) 623-9806 for more information or to get help started in your home.

What exactly does personal care cover?

Bathing, dressing, hair, oral care, grooming, restroom assistance, changing adult briefs and re-positioning to make you as comfortable as possible if you are bed-bound.

Will you do light housekeeping or help me with my dog?

We will. Our homemaking services included light housekeeping, organizing, cleaning and replacing bed linens, cooking, grocery shopping, plant care and helping with pet care.

Will you drive me to my appointments?

Certainly. If we take your car, there is no additional charge. If you need our caregiver to use their personal car, there will be a mileage expense to cover their gas. Griswold Home Care can help you stay in touch with friends by making frequent visits, get to the salon, or run any other errand you’d like to get done.

How do I know I’ll like who is in my house?

Someone from our office will come out and learn as much about you and the care you’re looking to receive. Based on what we learn, we will send out 2-3 people for you to meet. We want you to feel comfortable with the person that is in your home and best matches your personality.

Are your caregivers safe?

Griswold Home Care conducts several interviews and background checks to ensure we are offering the most qualified person to help in your home. We also have them perform competency screening for skill sets and experience. We check with verification of identity, training and certificates, criminal background, work eligibility, work history and personal references. Griswold and staff are licensed and bonded. Because our caregivers are independent contractors they provide their own license and professional liability insurance.

How do you find caregivers?

We work with a reputable caregiver referral database to hand select only the best skilled caregivers. We run the highest background check you can outside of the government. We also verify through the state of Florida every document/ license along with criminal history. We also look for caregivers who have training in specialized care such as: Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Hospice and Veteran care.

I clicked on your rates. How can you be so inexpensive?

The foundation of our company was to enable people to safely stay in their homes with the highest quality care at the most affordable rates. While we could raise rates, Griswold Home Care has been in business 35 years offering rates that allow people to get the help they need in their own home…it’s just who we are!

How will I know how my family member is doing?

We’re happy to call, text, send emails; whatever is the best way for you to communicate so you know Griswold Home Care is offering the service you expect.

Is this covered by Medicare?

Medicare/Medicaid will only come if ‘prescribed’ by your primary doctor, or after a 30 day stay in the hospital/rehab. They will send out a nurse to come out 2-3 times a week for a 1 hour bath visit and health evaluation. The nurse will not typically clean the house either.

Do you accept my long term care insurance?

Yes. With Griswold being a reputable company for over 35 years we are covered in most national provider networks. We also partner with a payroll company that specializes in LTC policies and can get your reimbursement checks faster.

What is your minimum?

2 hours. If you only need us for 1 hour that is fine, we just ask that the caregiver be paid for the 2 hours to help compensate for mileage and time. You will be surprised how much help the caregivers can do in 2 hours!

I have Veterans Benefits, will this be covered?

Yes. Griswold will send in all necessary paperwork to the VA to help get your reimbursement.

Do you have contracts?

No, we only have an agreement. You have full control over when you have care and who comes to your home.

Do you require a deposit?

No, we want your care to be when you are ready and need the help.

What if a live-in caregiver is needed?

There are a few options. First, the caregiver can stay up to 7 days at a time. Second, the week will be broken up between 2-3 caregivers each staying for a minimum of 24 hours. This is a great option for those looking for 24 hour care, but do not need help throughout the night.

My spouse and I need help. Will this be extra?

Only the caregiver will charge a little extra, depending on the services needed. Typically we find the caregivers only charge $2-5 extra per hour.

I need help over the holidays. Will this be extra?

The caregiver will charge time and half for care over the holidays.*This can be negotiated with your caregiver. Not all caregivers charge ex for all holidays.

Do you charge extra for the weekends?

No. Our founder Jean Griswold believed in one affordable cost. We also do not charge extra based on service location or needs.
