Family Caregivers in Zebulon, NC

Family Caregivers in Zebulon, NCBeing a family caregiver means putting yourself through a wide variety of physical and mental demands on a daily basis. By dedicating yourself completely to making sure your elderly loved ones have the care and assistance they need to live happy, healthy, active lives, you may overlook the need to take care of yourself as well. Not taking the time to nurture yourself physical and emotionally contributes to family caregiver stress, which can lead to feelings of exhaustion, depression, and resentment, as well as increased vulnerability to illness and infection, dry skin, and dull, lifeless hair.

It may seem like worrying about how your hair looks is shallow or a waste of time and energy when you have so many other things to think about while taking care of your loved ones. In reality, however, how you look is a major contributor to how you feel. When you feel good about the way you look, you are more likely to feel confident and prepared to take on the challenges you face during the day. Maintaining your physical appearance supports a good emotional outlook, high self-esteem, and a continued sense of self which is often lost in the course of a family caregiving relationship.

This family caregiver indulgence is homemade hair treatments that combat dry, dull, frizzy hair and help you enjoy healthier, more beautiful locks. By taking the time out to enjoy a hair treatment once a week you are easing your stress, giving yourself time to decompress and relax, and keeping yourself looking and feeling your best. This natural treatments can also be used for your elderly loved ones if they are coping with dry or unmanageable hair and you want to give them an emotional boost.

Avocado Treatment

The fat in avocadoes gives incredible moisture without weighing down or overwhelming fine or thin hair. Mash half an avocado into a smooth paste and add several drops of natural peppermint essential oil. This peppermint stimulates the scalp for healthier hair and soothed skin, while the fragrance clears the mind and boosts the spirit. Shampoo your hair as usual, squeeze out the excess water, and apply the mixture. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes and then rinse thoroughly for soft, smooth hair.

Coconut Oil

It seems that the incredible benefits of coconut oil never end and quenching dry, unmanageable hair is just one more. Warm one tablespoon of solid coconut oil until it is liquid and apply to the ends of damp hair. Allow to sit for 15 minutes up to overnight and then shampoo out. This is a heavy-duty moisturizing treatment best used for very dry or coarse hair.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Dull, lifeless hair makes you look and feel tired and worn. Restore the vitality and shine to your hair with just plain apple cider vinegar. This health and beauty powerhouse seals the cuticle, which is the outermost layer of the hair shaft, smoothing it down and giving your hair vibrant shine. Combine half a cup of warm water and one tablespoon of vinegar and pour it over shampooed hair. If you cannot stand the vinegar smell, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Comb your hair carefully, let the mixture sit for 5 minutes, and then rinse with warm water. The vinegar smell will disappear once your hair dries, leaving you with fresh, shiny hair.
