As a family caregiver, you might always feel like there is never enough time in the day to help out your elderly loved one and do everything else you need to do. If this is the case, one of the things that you might be struggling with is helping your elderly loved one with their meals. This is where senior home care can play a vital role in ensuring your senior eats nutritious meals on a regular schedule. Find out more about senior home care and meal planning and preparation here.

What is meal preparation?

Meal preparation is when senior home care providers help prepare your elderly loved one’s meals. We can make or help make some meals in advance, so your elderly loved one always has healthy meals on hand. If your elderly loved one has nutrition or dietary needs they must follow, these meal preparation services can be quite helpful.

How do we meal prep?

There isn’t just one way that senior home care providers meal prep. It all depends on what our clients need. For example, your elderly loved one may only need us to meal prep food for a few days because someone comes in again 3 to 4 days from now to make meals. With this being said, some of the ways we meal prep include:

  • Batch cooking (cooking a lot of portions of one meal that your elderly loved one enjoys, so they can eat it regularly for awhile – many of these meals can be frozen and reheated later on)
  • Making one meal ahead of time (oftentimes, senior home care will make dinner for the senior citizen before they go home for the day – that way, the senior citizen doesn’t have to worry about cooking later in the day)
  • Preparing ingredients (if your elderly loved one still enjoys cooking, but needs some help cutting up ingredients or preparing them, our home care providers can do this)

These are just some of the many ways that home care providers can help with meal preparation for senior citizens.

Booking Meal Prep with Other Services

Do you only have to book meal preparation services by themselves? No. The elder care providers that come to your elderly loved one’s home can do other services along with meal preparation while they are there such as:

  • Laundry
  • Vacuuming
  • Picking up clutter
  • Medication reminders
  • Dishes
  • Pet care

Conclusion

Is your elderly loved one having difficulty cooking? If so, now may be the right time to talk to them about getting meal preparation help. If they are up for it and they need additional help with other things while the senior home care providers are over, just let us know. Our team would be happy to help your elderly loved one in any way that we can.
