This week, family caregivers created natural wreaths as part of our Caregiver Art Support Group that meets monthly at the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center. What a fun time of providing respite through creativity!

This is one of our favorite ways to give back to our community. Why? Through this group, our family caregivers have been able to receive a monthly time of respite, relax through art, connect with each other, learn from each other, and support each other through the ups and downs of caregiving.

Being a family caregiver, especially for a spouse, can be isolating. It is important to find ways to connect with others who understand the unique challenges family caregivers face.

The group is free and open to all family caregivers. If you would like to join us any month for the Caregiver Art Support Group, we meet the second Tuesday of every month at 1 PM. Please RSVP with Becky Hayes so we make sure to have adequate supplies and space for all participants.

To find other dementia caregiver support groups in your area (in North Carolina), you can search by county at Dementia Alliance of North Carolina. Several of these are currently meeting via Zoom, so you would be able to participate even if you are unable to attend a meeting in-person, another challenge for family caregivers.
