In our work with families, we have found a lot of misunderstandings and confusion around veteran benefits that can help cover home care costs, home modifications and more.

In many cases we have found that families do not even know that there are veteran benefits that can cover such costs. There are!

Veterans who need assistance with activities like bathing, dressing, eating, getting around, or memory care may qualify for home care benefits through the VA.

Griswold’s home care services can be covered by VA benefits through one of two programs.

1. Homemaker Home Health Aide Care (HHA)

This benefit is available to veterans who qualify based on need even if they do not meet the financial requirements of the VA pension. Griswold Home Care for Wilmington is proud to be an approved agency for the HHA program.

In order for a veteran to receive HHA benefits, he or she must be signed up for VA health care, the VA must conclude that the veteran needs a specific service for ongoing treatment and personal care, and the service must be available in the veteran’s community. (We are an available provider of HHA services in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties in North Carolina.)

2. Aid and Attendance

This benefit is available to veterans and their surviving spouses if they receive a VA pension and qualify based on their need for assistance. Aid and Attendance is basically an "add-on" to the monthly pension.

Let us know if you or a loved one are in need of assistance in the home. We will always ask about veteran service so we can help point you to the VA benefits that may help cover the cost of care. Our veterans have earned it and we appreciate their service!
