When I created a photo book to celebrate my grandparent’s 70th wedding anniversary in 2011, I had no idea what a powerful tool it would become in my grandmother’s dementia journey. Over the years, this simple book of photos helped connect my grandmother to her caregivers and to her family members, including those she no longer remembered. It also provided a practical activity she looked forward to, enjoyed and seemed to be calmed by.

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Frances Hall, founder of ACAPcommunity to discuss how to use photos to build connections with parents and other loved ones touched by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. I hope you find it helpful. I would love to hear how you connected with loved ones through photos as you gathered over the holidays and into 2024.
